Berry  Robert Mallory

(28.01.1846-19.05.1929)

American Navy, Rear Admiral.

Born in Beechlands in Henry County, northern Kentucky.

During the years 1862-1866 he studied at the US Naval Academy, after which he was promoted to captain.

In 1881, on the ship "Rogers" with the rank of lieutenant Berry, led the expedition to search for the expedition of J. De Long, visited Wrangel Island.

During the Spanish-American War, he served as commandant of the South Atlantic military base, and in subsequent years, until his retirement in 1908, he held command positions in the US Navy.

 

 

He died in the city of Trione, Polk County, North Carolina. He was buried with military honors at site 4 of Arlington National Cemetery.

Mountain in the center of Wrangel Island. Named in 1881 by Berry Expedition.
