Erdman Gustav Fedorovich

Russian naval officer, vice-admiral; the chief commander of the ports of the Eastern Ocean and the military governor of the Primorsk region of Eastern Siberia.

Born in Dorpat in the family of a professor at the University of Dorpat.

In September 1830 he entered the Naval Cadet Corps, in December 1836 he was promoted to midshipman.

In the years 1837-1845. cruised in the Baltic and North Seas. April 19, 1842 promoted to lieutenant. In 1846, the ship "Narva" moved from Arkhangelsk to Kronstadt.

In 1847-1851 served in the Baltic Fleet. April 16, 1852 he was appointed commander of the ship "Izhora". December 6th promoted to captain-lieutenants. Participated in the defense of Kronstadt. In 1856-1861, commanding the postal steamer "Vladimir", cruised between the Russian and German ports. April 23, 1861 promoted to captain 2 rank.

March 31, 1862 dismissed for service on commercial courts. He headed the Nizhny Novgorod office of the Samolet steamboat company, was engaged in the organization of freight traffic on the Volga. January 1, 1864 promoted to captain of the 1st rank.

April 2, 1866 returned to active service. Commanding a submarine designed by I.F. Alexandrovsky, conducted its tests in the area Tolbukhina lighthouse. On January 1, 1872, for distinctions, he was promoted to rear admiral with the appointment of a junior flagship of the Baltic Fleet. In the years 1873-1875. commanded the 1st detachment of armored vessels in the Baltic Sea.

On July 7, 1875, he was appointed chief commander of the ports of the Eastern Ocean and military governor of the Primorsk region of Eastern Siberia. November 29, arrived in Vladivostok and on December 10, took office. In April-June 1876, on the steamer-corvette "America" he became acquainted with the Russian ports. Constantly monitored the construction and strengthening of the port of Vladivostok, periodically made inspection visits to the subordinate territories and ports of Primorye and Amur.

January 15, 1880, was summoned to St. Petersburg and on June 9 he was appointed commander of the port of Revel.

In early January 1883, Erdman resigned. On January 31, he was promoted to vice-admiral with dismissal due to illness, but this news did not catch G.F. Erdman is alive.

He died in Revel.

An island in the north of Providence Bay. The name appeared on the map after the shooting of 1876 of Second Lieutenant Maximov, who was swimming on the "Vsadnik" clipper.
