Eremin Athanasius

Sumy tradesman, fur farmer.

Illiterate. In 1835, industrial activity off the coast of Novaya Zemlya helped Pakhtusov, whose carbas was wrecked near the island of Berh. Eremin delivered Pakhtusov and his companions to Matochkin Shar. In 1837, the three-masted boat of Eremin "Saint Elisha" was chartered by the expedition of academician Baer to Novaya Zemlya. At the end of the expedition, Baer issued the following certificate to Yeremin: “I, the undersigned, testify that the boat “Elisha”, owned by Sumy burghers, Afanasy Yeremin and Ivan Chelyuzgin, went to Novaya Zemlya on the instructions of the Academy of Sciences.At all times, sailed safely, the ship is firmly and quietly on the sea and well on the go; the sower and the ship-owner Eremin are skillful in their work and know well the shores of the White Sea, Novaya Zemlya and the adjacent Lapland and Norwegian ones”. Off the coast of Novaya Zemlya Eremin reached the north to the Pankratyevsky peninsula.

The bay near the island of Lichutin - Eremin harbor, or Eremin camp. Called by P.K. Pakhtusov in July 1835.
