Lamon James Sir

(26.04.1828 – 29.07.1913)

Scottish explorer, yachtsman.

Born in Nokdow.

Especially known for his travels in the Arctic: three expeditions to Svalbard in 1858, 1859 and 1871, an expedition to Svalbard and Novaya Zemlya in 1869 and to Novaya Zemlya in 1870. He also traveled through Africa and the West Indies.

Lamon was a member of the Geological Society of London and the Royal Geographical Society.

Isle and bay in the south of the Land Olaf V , the island of Western Spitsbergen. The coordinates are 78° 30'N  20° 00'E.

Cape (Lamont) in the east of the island of Wilczek Land in the archipelago of Franz Josef Land. Opened by the sleigh party by E. Baldwin from the American expedition of W. Wellman.
