Lingge  Bernt Arne

(09.07.1884 - 28.01.1942)

Norwegian botanist specialized in lichens, in particular species from the Arctic and Antarctic.

Linge was born in Lyngør in Aust-Agder, Norway. After graduation, he worked as an assistant at the Botanical Garden of the University of Oslo, and then as a curator at the Museum of Natural History of the University of Oslo. Since 1935, he was appointed Professor of Botany at the University of Oslo. Linge was elected to the Norwegian Academy of Sciences. His publication included studies of the lichen flora of Norway and vascular plants from New Semlen.

A 4 km long glacier in the very south of the Cirkapp Land, West Spitsbergen Island. The coordinates are 76° 37.5'N   16° 41'E.
