Famous swedish nerd.

Born in Thorsø, Sweden. He graduated from Uppsala University , in which he later held the position of full professor, combining this work with the management of the botanical garden in Uppsala.

Chellman participated in several Arctic expeditions, including the famous expedition of  Nordenskjold on the "Vega". During these expeditions, he collected the richest botanical collections and excellently studied the polar flora, especially the algae flora, becoming the best expert in this field. His works on algology concern not only the study and description of sets of algae species , but also relate to the field of their morphology and biology. He also worked on the influence of various external factors (temperature of light, composition of water, etc.) on the development of algae, setting the oreals of various algae and their formation for the northern seas, worked on dwarf forms and described many different new algae.

Most of the algae mentioned in the works of Chellman were found in the Russian parts of the Arctic Ocean, due to which its activity is of great importance for Russian botany.

He died in Uppsala.
