Freden Wilhelm-Eno-Adolf
(1822-1894)
German specialist in marine business.
Born in Norden, Germany. He
studied mathematics and science in Bonn and Göttingen.
He was the rector of the navigation school in Elfslet, Germany. From
1867 to 1875 supervised
the marine observatory he founded in Hamburg. In
1871 he was elected to the Reichstag, where he joined the party of
national liberals.
The works of Freden relate to practical navigation, oceanography,
meteorology, shipping statistics, storm warnings. Published
a number of scientific journals.
The island in
the group of the Islands of White Earth archipelago Franz
Josef Land. It
was first discovered and named by Yu.
Payer in 1874. First
it
visited by F.
Nansen and F.
Ya. Johansen, who retained its name.
Cape (Kapp
Freeden) on the west side of the southern part of the Hinlopen
Strait, Svalbard. The
